Blue Coat Systems, the technology leader in Application Delivery Networking, today expanded the Blue Coat ProxyAV family of appliances with the Blue Coat Proxy AV1200 appliance that provides inline malware scanning at the Internet gateway. The ProxyAV 1200 appliance scans all Web content, including file downloads from Web 2.0 sites with user authentication or credential tokens and provides a critical layer of defense in the Blue Coat Secure Web Gateway solution.
The Blue Coat Secure Web Gateway solution utilizes a hybrid architecture that combines on-premise equipment, like the inline threat detection of the ProxyAV appliance, with the cloud-based WebPulse collaborative defense. This architecture delivers high performance protection at the Internet gateway and on-demand security intelligence to all users about emerging and evolving Web-based threats. Additionally, ProxyAV appliances provide information about newly discovered threats to the WebPulse cloud, which is shared worldwide by more than 62 million users.
“The magnitude and speed of Web-based threats demand a layered security defense that can effectively protect all users in a variety of ways, regardless of location,” said Carrie Oakes, vice president of product marketing at Blue Coat Systems. “The Blue Coat Secure Web Gateway solution utilizes industry-leading Web awareness to provide users from any location with comprehensive on-demand intelligence about the latest threats.”
ProxyAV appliances work in tandem with Blue Coat ProxySG appliances and support four leading anti-malware engines to provide enterprises with flexibility to deploy the solution that best addresses their specific requirements. As an inline scanning device, the ProxyAV appliance analyzes all file downloads from user-authenticated Web 2.0 sites, Web mail, file sharing and other methods of content delivery while it enforces corporate IT policies related to the content.
Designed specifically for high performance networks, the Blue Coat ProxyAV appliances support four modes of content analysis, enabling organizations to optimize scanning on a per traffic type basis for more comprehensive protection against potential threats. Diverse traffic, such as audio and video, attachments and email, can be effectively scanned with traditional object analysis, trickle first or last stream analysis and deferred scan analysis, without compromising network performance. For further protection against inbound threats, ProxyAV appliances can scan files up to 2 GB in size and analyze up to 99 layers of compressed archives.
